Ep 047: How Damo, a Day-Trader, Built Financial Freedom in Thailand (And How You Can Too)
Hey, its Roman šāāļø
Iāve got exciting news !
As of today, Iām kicking off a new interview series where I sit down with fascinating nomads from all over the world to dive into their stories, challenges, and successes.
Should I interview more nomads who mastered location independence and share their stories? How other digital nomads make money and their struggles. |
I believe this will resonate with you all, as it's not just our outcomes that define us, but the struggles and hardships we endure along the way.
These challenges shape who we are and who we become. And it turns out that as normal guys walking away from insanity, weāve got plenty of those. This week, I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting Damo, an Aussie day trader who left the shores of Australia behind for the vibrant life in Thailand.
Let's dive into the nuts and bolts of becoming a successful day-trading digital nomad!

How a Forgotten Crypto Investment Saved My Ass
This is a true story.
Back in 2015, when Bitcoin was starting to creep into the public eye, I decided to make a small investment. At the time, one bitcoin was worth around $1,500. I threw some money in and, to be honest, forgot about it. Life got busy, my business took off, and by 2017, I was riding high and Nano Depot had become a 7-figure business.
The day I bought my Porsche
That year was my bestāmoney was flowing, and I didnāt give that crypto investment another thought.
Then came 2021. I hit rock bottom. Bankruptcy wiped me out, and everything I thought I had built was gone. I remember sitting there, feeling the weight of losing everything, when suddenly, it hit me: I had a crypto account somewhere. I scrambled to find it, and when I finally logged in, there it was.
What I saw on the screen floored meāthat forgotten investment had grown to over 10,000 USD.
It saved me.
It wasnāt millions, but it was enough to give me a lifeline.
At a moment when I had nothing, it was the one thing that kept me from being completely wiped out. That small, forgotten decision years earlier turned out to be the reason I could get back on my feet.
Having said that, I was super excited to be able to do an interview with Damo, who has a ton of experience with trading and has mastered the skill of using just a few hours per day to build financial and location independence.

Lessons from Damo, the Day-Trading Nomad
Iām sharing this because Damoās journey reminded me that trading and investing arenāt about hitting the jackpotātheyāre about the long game, patience, and trusting the process. Here are some of the most valuable insights from my conversation with Damo:
Play the long game: Damo compares trading to an apprenticeshipāit takes at least four years of dedication to become good at it. There are no shortcuts.
Focus on skill, not greed. His best trading day? A 5% gain. But instead of chasing big wins, Damo focuses on small, consistent returns, aiming for 10% monthly.
Freedom over profits: For Damo, trading isnāt just about moneyāitās about time and freedom. He believes the goal is to build a lifestyle where youāre not chained to a desk or waiting for retirement to start living.
Tackle the challenges head-on: From managing bank accounts across borders to finding reliable internet while traveling, Damo emphasizes that being a nomadic trader requires more than just market knowledgeāit demands resilience and problem-solving.
Learn from the right sources: Damo advises new traders to invest in quality education. Avoid the temptation of random YouTube videosāfind mentors and structured programs that teach real strategies.

Damos' story once again highlights a common theme among nomads.
Which is that literally everyone I have talked to is walking away from toxic environments in the west.
It is really staggering and alarming. Most guys are so fed up and rightly so. More on that here: The West has fallen: Time to pack your bags and leave? I think most people do not realize how dire the situation in the West has become.
Mass migration is a two-way street no one talks about.
We only hear from people how migrants come to the USA and Europe but rarely do we hear about the millions of guys, and I say guys because 90% (!) of all nomads are guys. Let that sink in. Maybe that is why nobody cares.
If the gender were reversed, we would probably have a national emergency day already.
Thatās it for today, guys. Thanks for reading.
Please let me know if there is a particular person you think I should interview. I would be happy to do so.
Warm regards, Roman
